World Day for Cultural Diversity: a unique opportunity to take action

Every year on 21 May, World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development reminds us how fundamental this wealth is for building an inclusive future. Proclaimed in 2002 by the United Nations and based on the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity, this day highlights the importance of :

• intercultural dialogue to reduce misunderstandings and strengthen peace
• sustainable development, by showing how diversity nurtures social and economic progress
• tolerance and unity, creating societies where each culture is respected and valued
